In response to escalating temperatures and increasing heat-related health concerns, Las Vegas has updated its master plan to incorporate comprehensive heat mitigation strategies. This initiative aligns with Assembly Bill 96, which mandates that Nevada counties with populations exceeding 100,000 integrate such measures into their planning.
The city’s revised plan emphasizes the expansion of public cooling centers, the enhancement of shaded areas, and improved access to drinking water. These efforts aim to provide residents with essential resources to combat extreme heat conditions.
According to the Southern Nevada Health District, Clark County reported 284 heat-associated deaths in 2025, underscoring the urgency of these interventions. The city council’s proactive approach reflects a commitment to safeguarding public health amid the challenges posed by rising temperatures.
